Cataract surgery with intraocular lens
Cataract surgery is among the most modern and successful procedures in equine ophthalmology. With a lens opacity (cataract), there is a significant reduction in visual acuity, which can seriously affect the horse’s well‑being and performance. In our eye clinic we use the microsurgical technique of phacoemulsification. The cloudy lens is gently fragmented and removed using ultrasound energy. A specially adapted intraocular lens is then implanted, which replaces the eye’s natural refractive power. Thanks to this method, the animal’s vision can be sustainably restored and the quality of life significantly improved. The operation is performed with state‑of‑the‑art technology and the highest precision to ensure the best possible results and safety.

Iridectomy
Iridectomy is a specialized microsurgical procedure used for various diseases or changes of the iris. Particularly in iris melanomas or certain iris diseases, it may be necessary to remove a small part of the iris in a targeted manner. Through the precise removal of the altered tissue, the progression of the disease can be effectively halted and the long‑term health of the eye maintained. The goal of the operation is to preserve vision and prevent possible complications. Iridectomy is performed in various animal species using state‑of‑the‑art microsurgical techniques, with maximum precision, safety, and the animal’s well‑being always the focus.

Eye breeding examination
The eye breeding examination is a standardized and official examination for the early detection and documentation of hereditary eye diseases in breeding animals. It serves responsible breeding planning and the preservation of healthy offspring. Our examinations are carried out in accordance with the binding guidelines of the Austrian Working Group for Veterinary Ophthalmology (AKVO) and the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ECVO). This ensures that the results are internationally recognized and comparable. The aim of these standardized examinations is to detect possible hereditary eye diseases at an early stage, to objectively evaluate breeding animals, and to sustainably safeguard the quality and health of breeding.
